Lodge History |
|
In 1947, the men of Byron and Powersville, Georgia; decided that it was time to organize a Masonic lodge in their area. After much discussion, they spoke with Bro. Bosey Pride, DDGM of Butler District #20; at which time, Powersville was awarded its charter, by the order of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Georgia. The first meetings were initially held in the Powersville Public School, where the Rev. J.C. Solomon*, was appointed the first Worshipful Master. The brothers search for a permanent home lead them to Lizzie Chapel Church on Georgia Highway 49, whereby they purchased an undisclosed acreage of land and erected their first Masonic Hall; Powersville Lodge #134, PHA. In 1985, the membership had out grown its structure and property was purchased from Bethel A.M.E. Church, approximately 2 miles from the current site. This would mark the upward growth of the craft as they knew it. The illustrious brothers Powersville Lodge #134, would move upon there newly acquired land purchase with ideas of building a dream that still stands and thrives to this day. The brothers chose the best and most cost efficient way of constructing a new lodge with out accumulating debt. So, under the supervision of Brothers Henry Russell* and Harry Miller**, the craft elected to collectively purchase all the building materials, meaning everything, down to bricks and mortar use in the erection of the structure that is now the current Powersville Lodge # 134 PHA, District no. 20 of the Jurisdiction of Georgia. In 1989, the cornerstone was laid under the supervision of the Hon. Grand Master of Georgia and the sitting Worshipful Master. And our lodge hall is a constant reminder of our historical organizational struggle. We still have remnants of our early years as a newly established lodge, that we have preserved, so that they may continue to remind us of the true meanings of Friendship, Morality, and Brotherly Love.
